While sipping his tequila, he noticed a sizzling, scrumptious looking platter being served at the next table. Not only did it look good, the smell was wonderful.

He asked the waiter, "What is that you just served?" The waiter replied, "Ah senor, you have excellent taste! Those are called Cojones de Toro, bull's testicles from the bull fight this morning. A delicacy!" The cowboy said, "What the heck, bring me an order." The waiter replied, "I am so sorry senor. There is only one serving per day because there is only one bull fight each morning. If you come early and place your order, we will be sure to save you this delicacy."

The next morning, the cowboy returned, placed his order, and that evening was served the one and only special delicacy of the day. After a few bites, inspecting his platter, he called to the waiter and said, "These are delicious, but they are much, much smaller than the ones I saw you serve yesterday." The waiter shrugged his shoulders and replied,....

"Si,Senor....Sometimes the bull wins."

Wala Wala

These were taken on the 12th of june:

ps: the band was awesome! Guess what... we spend four hours on tables! Okay fine, we were slightly distracted -by golf and guppies!! haha- but it seems really complicated. =P Anyway, i wasn't feeling too well and all of my senses got jumbled up. I felt very uncomfortable yet i had a huge appetitle. Weird right?! Well, i've satisfied all those cravings (dory fillet, fried rice, carrot and nuts cake, pecan pie on top of lunch and dinner) except a scoop or two of ice cream, which i know i should stay away from till i'm better.

Friday:

I feel like bringing grandpa for lunch at jackplace if i'm better.. LOL. Beef tenderloin done up medium! Yummy! Okay, i shouldn't post in my current condition. All i could think of is foood. Update soon. Good Night. Haha. However, it's good enough that we got the opportunity to meet up this holiday. It's been two year since i last hang out with them. Alright, they were actually my "long lost friends" which i got to know after the obs trip in secondary three. It's just some of them though, the rest couldn't make it.. but i'm sure we're meet up real soon. (: Anyway.. we used to study very often after school, in particular at bedok mac. Yes, those memories were simply precious. Studying, eating, chit chatting and playing the coin games which i enjoyed/got fooled by them the most. On a lighter note, it's the fifth year now and kamae hasn't solve the puzzle! LOL. I notice that all of us has some changes here and there and i'm glad that we're all fine. As for now, i shall wait patiently for some nice fella to plan the next outing. Never in my life i've heard of such an event. It sounds interesting but i know it's just another JC event and i wouldn't be able to participate in (didn't plan to study in a JC since secondary 3). Okay, time to fast forward a little.. the suprise came when the course manager nominated me, i accepted it, spend hours doing the essay for the interview which was out of topic (no worries though, most of them went out of topic too because the question wasn't specific enough), went for the interview, got selected, got warned that out of 30 person from tp selected; only 25 could go, went for weekly meeting during holiday and Tada! .. the event came one week before the mid-sem test ! (:

What is it about: It is actually a platform set up since 1970 for pre-university students to cultivate awareness of the current issues faced by singapore. Basically, it's opened mainly to JCs and recently IP, IB and Polytechnics (poly since last year).

The groupings: Students from each representing institution will be seperated till the seminar group has only one student per institution. Presentation and Pannel Discussions, Firmfest has two or three sessions running concurrently.

Okay, so the 25 of us assembed in school on that particular monday with our super big bags, luggages, blazers etc feeling energetic and execited. The bus came and we got onto it but it took us a couple of minutes to realise that the bus happen to come along with this bad-tempered uncle. Yes, we ignored him throughout the journey to NTU. None of us want to start the week feeling irritated. We arrived early that day and we proceeded to our destinated check-in counters. There, our room keys, two set of polo tee, our meal voucher and our identity tags were handled out.

Next, it was time for me to start seaching for the right room and while doing so i was praying for it to be air-conditioned ! However, it wasn't. Those air-conditioned rooms were given to the student facilitators. Anyway, there's like two beds, tables, cabinet and a ceiling fan in a room. Two common toilet at each floor.

Well, i was early so i got no idea who my roommate was but i had the privilege to choose which side of the room i wanted. Hehe. After the team bonding games.. this guy from my seminar group entered to the same room and i found out that he is from VJC and his mum teaches in my secondary school after a mini self-introductory session. Dinner was good as we get to choose what we want. (meal vouchers for any stall in the canteen). Furthermore, supper was only two hours away and what they serve was similar to most camps: bread or cakes and burgers for the last night. Second helping was also welcomed as there were some who would skip their. =P

Along the way, i got to know a lot of interesting people within my seminar group. Everyone has a story to tell. From how it was like studying in an IB/IP school to being a A-Star scholar doing pet projects, from being a 6 pointer yet at YJC instead of RJ to being a foreign national studying locally. That's not all actually.. we spoke about our cca in school.. the challenges we faced etc etc. Yes, it's interesting.. especially when some of us have the mentality that well we're all "stuck" here for the next five days, so why not enjoy ourselves to the fullest and get to know new friends.

Next, the opening ceremony which comes along with a conversation with the minister (Dr Vivian Balakrishnan) was rather insighful and (not to forget, it sounds politically correct like usual to me) as some question raise by the students touches our concern being a Singaporean. Oh, and before i get back to serious stuff again.. we had five to six meals daily! Totally awesome! I would say it's like a tea camp/seminar. LOL. You get to eat and eat and eat and eat and eat again. Tea and lunch was the best, buffet style.. different food each time round and the pastries are yummy! Okay, i sound greedy but i have to confess i didn't had much. I didn't like walking around too much; one got to cut through the tonnes of people. (;

Two other standard activities which i guess each pre-uni seminar has was the parallel presentations and the panel discusion. Parallel presentations was held on three consecutive days. Basically, it is a 20 minutes presentation by each representing institution follow by an exciting and firey Q&A which spices things up and this what most people would be looking forward for. There bound to be some kind of "commotion" during each session and some wasn't being polite at all ! As for the panel discussion, the first one was really insightful and enriching.. the guest speakers were sincere, daring and each of them had a unique perspective on the topic which is: "Vibrant Singapore, Home of choice". Btw, the speakers were: Mr. Ong (Chairman, Infocomm Investment Pte Ltd), Professor Edison Liu (Executive Director, Genome Institute of Singapore) and Mr Jonathan Yuen (Partner & General Counsel, Global Resoultions). The second panel discussion: "who wants to be a social entrepreneur", was only average because of a few reasons. Planelists were: Ms Penny Low (Member of Parliament, Pasir-Ris Punggol GRC), Mr Seow (Executive Director, TOUCH Community Services Ltd) and Ms Elim Chew (Founder/MD of 77th street (s) Pte Ltd).

Okay, other then the closing ceremony the other activities organised for us was the special programs. Firstly, Digital Chase which was a fusion of Cluedo and The Amazing Race. The clues used to solve a murder mystery were embedded in 2-D barcodes hidden all over the NTU campus. Secondly, the Asian FirmFest brings together some of the best films of the region to showcase talents in Asia and to highlight issues close to the heart of Asian. I managed to watch Joni's Promise and we had a short discussion after which with an Assoc Prof in sociology from NUS if i'm not wrong. Lastly, the sandcastle challenge. LOL. Yes, we had to build sandcastle at ecp organized a local corporate training company.

On the extras late night activities includes: brining my textbooks and lecture notes to study but in the end i didn't touch at all, playing of cards, surfing the internet, watching television at the common room, role-playing, truth or dare, shoot-shack-or-marry, indian poker, bridge etc etc.

Overall, it's a once in a life time opportunity. Thinking about it now, it's worth going despite being so close to my papers. I hope the poly forum in september would be as good. *keeping my finger crossed. Hehe. That should be a good thing right? But the truth is.. i'm feeling a little disappointed. Work was really fun and interesting with my secondary school buds and the processing guys i met two weeks ago. It's like almost the entire time we were working yet enjoying ourselves by filling half the LT with jokes, laughter and "nonsensical" activities. Yes, where can u find such "ideal" working environment where work and play could brighten the time spend there. Don't get me wrong, we did control our actions when there were customers around. However, i feel that we were too rowdy on a few occasions. Anyway, these would be one of those time where work could be in such a manner, i doubt there will be a second time.

Moving on, like most of the times.. such exposure gives me a whole lot of different perspective and a glimpse of the reality of life. It's worth it. Why? You get paid and the experience. For instant, i guess some of us do not know how fortunate we have been. For example, what we have been taking for granted like owning/sharing a desktop/laptop at home and being able to surf the net as and when we want to. I happen to meet this customer (singaporean) and he was going to be freshman. I could tell that he got no idea what i was explaining to him from the very start. I'm quite sure he had limited exposure to the world of IT. I had to show him what Internet Explorer was for and i even told him to double click in order to get to the internet. Well, some might say that that's like only one such case in a hundred. But still, we should be grateful we weren't that one.

Chalet / Work

Woah, it's been quite some time since i last post my entry. First, it was my buds chalet and then work started pouring over me. First of all, sorry guys! I know i miss out a lot of fun not going for the 1B04 class chalet, but as you guys know, i had another chalet on. And they have arranged that since jan. Alright, i'll plan the next one during our holidays and we're all meet up k !

Chalet was rather fun and we booked aloha at changi to cut cost rather then the annual chalet at nsrcc which cost like 700 plus for two nights. Yea, we would have burned a big hole in our pockets if we had done that. Plus, this time round we didn't have a water bomb fight! Anyway, ray drove us to the chalet after some grocery shopping at bedok central. Well, i have confident in his driving.. i could skip the additional insurance part. Then during BBQ, jerome came with his small yellow car which was tunned. So ray took it for a test drive while picking kenny up. Of course, he started dragging the car and the engine was bomming away. Conclusion, give me 4 more months and i'll get my licence. (: Next all about work. Well, i guess it has been alright with my friends working along with me and to be honest it has been rather interesting. We could watch movies while we're free and the lunch/dinner was delicious. Moreover, the processing guys are nice and we get along well. We even came out with nicknames (accordind to girls school) as it is easiler to remember. Guess what.. darren aka TKGS. That's what i'm called in that LT. I'm aware that we do some times lodge a complain some time in our lives as consumer because of our displeasure but what i'm trying to put across is that the way we do that should be appropriate. For example, a complain with other customer around shouldn't be shouting at a distance, filled vulgarities and than storming out of the place. Doesn't that show the perfect example of an uncouth behavior and inconsideration for others. It's not wrong to complain but we should at least behavior in an appropriate manner. I guess, once in a while we would wittness such behaviour as such incidents are inevitable as we all have different trash hold levels. Last night at around 3am, ray drove the seven of us to sempang for supper and then drop me at my place so i could take a short nap before heading down to campus this morning. Thus, i managed to get some sleep. 2 hours plus ? Anyway, the conclusion is that.. all the inconvenience plus the effort put in are going down the drain. Oh well, i shall be nice and forgive them. But i expected it after such a long stop from the previous job, i guess the momentum has to slowly build up once more. To be honest, there isn't too much of a crowd as it was only the first day of the registration. Thus, we were rotting at the LT for almost the entire day. No worries though, next week would be a buzz.

Alright, enough about work. On to more important stuff. I realise some time back that the best time for me to daze is on the bus. Weird? Nah, perfectly normal to me. I don't know when i start cultivating such a habit but it seems to be the best place for my thoughts to run while admiring the view. Perhaps, it's because i'm in a confined area and there isn't much for me to do. Reading would be beneficial but i will definately be rewarded with a headache afterwards. And forget about napping, the bus does not provide me with any sense of security. Moreover, i'm afraid i'll miss my stop. I do not see any harm dazing on the bus as it rather interesting to me. I often come across questions i never thought of. Anyway, you should give a shot if your wondering how it feels like. HAHA. Well, i'm wondering right now if there's any "weird" fello out there who does the same as i do.
